If you’re located out in the Great Basin region and have any affection for drag racing whatsoever, next weekend’s Napa Auto Parts IHRA Nitro Jam near Salt Lake City, Utah will be an event that you will have done a great disservice to yourself by missing. In other words. be there.
The NAPA Auto Parts Nitro Jam at the Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley June 29-30 will bring together the finest collection of Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars witnessed all year long in the Nitro Jam series, and a field of combatants you’ll have to travel to the March Meet or the California Hot Rod Reunion in Southern California to equal.
Among the field of AMSOIL Prostalgia floppers will be one of the most famous car and driver combinations of all-time, as Dale Pulde returns to the wheel of his iconic “War Eagle” 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. Joining him will be second-generation nitro pilot Steve Densham, the son of NHRA Funny Car driver Gary Densham, driving his father’s “Teacher’s Pet” Camaro, and Jason Rupert in the “Mert Littlefield” tribute Camaro that recently reset the DRO Series speed record at 253.14 mph — nearly a full mile per hour faster than the current Nitro Jam speed record.
Also in the field will be heavy-hitter Tim Boychuk in the record-setting “Troy Lee Designs” Pontiac, Mike Savage in the “Candies & Hughes” Barracuda, Roger Garten in the “War Eagle”, Bob Godfrey in “Burn N’ Money”, and local favorite Jack Harris in the “Nitro Thunder”.
As they do at every Nitro Jam event, this “whos-who” collection of Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars will battle it out on two separate nights in a Chicago-style eliminations program in which the two quickest winners in the first round meet in the final while the remaining competitors square off in a consolation round, of sorts.
The NAPA Auto Parts Nitro Jam will include a full slate of Pro Fuel Dragsters, the legendary Fuel Altereds, Nitro Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and jet dragsters, but needless to say, the stars of the nitro flopper world are going to steal the show at this one.
