Scott Husted’s Radial Mustang Hits the Ground

The project took about six months to get to this point and there are just a few smaller things to wrap up but the majority of the hard part is finished up.

Scott Husted is the 2008 Heavy Street winner at the Orlando World Street Finals and he’s made the switch to Outlaw Drag Radial with a 1993 Mustang coupe.

The cage was built by Robert Coady at Category Five Race Cars in Zephyrhills, Florida to a 25.3 spec. The rest of the fabrication was handled by Scott in his home shop, including the headers and all the intercooler piping and exhaust, wiring, fuel system etc. The engine is the 598 Nelson Competition BBC from his Camaro with the same GT 47/88 precision turbos.

Engine management is via a Big Stuff 3 with an AMS 1000 to control the boost. VP will be Scott’s fuel of choice. The Husted Motorsports team should be out testing shortly and expects a race debut this September at Sunshine Dragstrip’s Heads Up Madness series. The engine is a proven performer so success is a matter of learning the intricacies of the radial tires.

All business in here with a funny car cage for driver protection. A super light weight dash holds the Race Pak dash system used to monitor the critical functions.
