The No Prep racing world is one of the toughest in all of drag racing, and at the highest levels of the Big Tire class you have to be running at the top of your game or you’ll be going home early. Shawn Wilhoit has been wheeling his 1963 Chevy II known as “The Mistress” at the biggest No Prep races for years, and now he’s ready to unleash his newest monster, “The Mistress 2.0”, a twin-turbo Camaro, at the upcoming Redemption 7.0 event.
For Wilhoit, the choice to assemble a new car stemmed from the need to keep up with the trends in the Big Tire class and shed weight off of his car. All of the fastest cars in the class were stepping up their game and the opportunity arose for Wilhoit to do the same. “The original Mistress is 3,200 pounds and a lot of these cars are having to add weight to get to 2,650 pounds, so that’s where I needed to be. I really didn’t want to chop up the original Mistress to make it as light as it needed to be; it’s just too nice of a car to do that to,” Wilhoit explains.
Wilhoit’s Mistress 2.0 was built by Pro Chassis Design in Port Jefferson, New York as one of their own in-house cars before Wilhoit obtained it. The 1967 Camaro body of the Mistress 2.0 fits the original specs of the car. Wilhoit made sure this body would fit as close to the original footprint of a 1967 Camaro as possible so it can fall within the rules of any No Prep race.
Powering the car will be a 540 cubic-inch Big Chief-style engine from Morgan & Son Racing Engines that uses a set of Pro-Filer heads and a custom Hogan intake. The power-adder of choice is a pair of Garrett turbos that feed the boost into the engine via a Woolf Aircraft custom turbo kit, with a ComSYNC EFI system controlling all of the engine functions. Putting the power down is a three-speed transmission and torque converter from M&M Transmission.

Wilhoit’s goal is to be a player right off the bat in the Big Tire class wars and he’s ready to show what the Mistress 2.0 can do on the biggest of stages.
“It’s going to be great to bring the car out to an event like Redemption 7.0; it will be off the chain, for sure! We’ll try to do a little bit of testing beforehand, but this car is going to be something else when it hits the track. This car should have no problem at all keeping up with the rest of the big names in the No Prep world after we get it sorted out,” Wilhoit says.
