For quite some time Keith Berry has laid claim to driving the world’s fastest independent rear suspension-equipped car in the 1/4 mile, but Silas Oneals and the guys at Late Model Racecraft have been aiming to blow away his records. On their first attempt just a few months back they were able to run an easy-going 8.63 at 145 with only 18 pounds of boost. After re-adjusting a few things to make sure the car would certify for the ET they were shooting for, LMR brought this IRS-equipped terror back to the track.
Well, the news is in from Eric over on SVTPerformance.com, that these guys have just barely eclipsed Keith Berry in the ET department with an 8.37, but bested Berry’s speed record by 13 mph. Berry still has a hold on the 1/8 mile IRS-Corvette record as that’s what his car is primarily set up for, but LMR is right on his tail in that department too. Checkout the Youtube video of their impressive pass below –
While it’s almost a dead tie with Berry’s E/T, LMR says they’ve still got a few more PSI to put into this engine, and tells us that they’re solidly shooting to get this ‘Vette into the 7’s come hell or high water. From their best estimates, they’ve still got about 8 more psi with this particular turbo setup and they’ve got a little more fine tuning to go in the 60 foot department – their 60 ft. time on the 8.37 was a 1.49.
Inside this LMR masterpiece is a 427″ LSX engine with a twin 78mm turbo kit that’s one of LMR’s custom fabricated kits. While we know the factory IRS has quite a bit of tweaking done to it, LMR is keeping those special secrets under wraps for now. Does this Vette have what it takes to run in the 7’s with stock suspension?
