Glen Sheeley fell in love with Corvettes thanks to his father. The dream of building a killer street-driven C1 Corvette always stayed in Glen’s mind since his dad said goodbye to his 1960 Corvette. Well, when Glen decided to build his own Corvette, he didn’t hold back, and his car is a great mix of modern technology and old-school charm.
To help the family car wash business, Glen’s dad sold his 1960 Corvette. After the Corvette was sold, Glen made a promise that they would build the ultimate C1 Corvette. Well, this awesome 1962 Corvette is the final result of that promise being kept all these years later.
“It was really important to me to build a car we could enjoy. This car was built using the best parts possible with the goal of being driven on the street. I’m so happy with how the car turned out and glad his dad got to go on Drag Week with me. Winning just made things that much better,” Glen says.
Glen’s C1 Corvette is powered by a nasty 419 cubic-inch LME-built LS engine that’s controlled by a FuelTech ECU. A Neil Chance torque converter and Rossler 4L80E transmission round out the driveline. This potent combo has pushed the Corvette into the 8.80s at over 153 MPH without a power-adder. Larry Larson fabricated the amazing chassis and suspension for the car.
What makes Glen’s Corvette even more impressive is the fact that it’s a legit street car. Glen won the Modified Small Block N/A class at Drag Week in 2024. The Corvette didn’t even flinch when it came to finishing the 1,000-plus-mile drag racing torture test, and it did it without a trailer. That’s right, everything that Glen and his dad needed to finish Drag Week was kept in the car
Builds like Glen Sheeley’s Corvette are what make drag racing fun. Glen built this car as a tribute to the automotive bug his father gave him, but found a way to create a totally awesome car.
