Tony Stewart is one of the most talented racers to ever strap into anything with wheels. It doesn’t matter what level Stewart has raced at, he’s won and won a lot. Now Stewart can add a professional drag racing wins column to his legendary resume after his Top Fuel win at the 4-Wide Nationals.
When Stewart announced he would be jumping in the seat of his wife Leah Pruett’s Top Fuel dragster, there were some who floated the nation it wasn’t that big of a deal. The problem was, those people didn’t understand just how big Stewart is in the greater motorsports universe. Stewart’s presence in the NHRA is a big deal, and he’s shown just how committed to become a great driver he really is.

Stewart has been very upfront with just how frustrated his team has been with their lack of success since he took over driving duties. But, Stewart, Neal Strausbaugh, Mike Domagala, and the entire team buckled down to do what it took to finally win.
“It’s been so stressful for everyone since Leah nearly won the World Top Fuel Championship in 2023 when it came down to the final round of the whole season. We had a lot of changes for the team because my body weight is different. Car tubing is different, and it just takes time. It was frustrating as we just couldn’t get on a path to make consistent gains last year,” Stewart said after his Vegas win.
You cannot deny just how deep Stewart’s racing resume is and adding an NHRA win is clearly special to him.
“It’s pretty damn cool. I’ve been a motorsports fan my whole life, and I think we made racing history today with the Top Fuel win. I’m not sure if there has ever been a driver to win a NASCAR Cup race, an IndyCar race, the USAC Triple Crown championship and an NHRA Pro event (Top Fuel). To do it with our team and our family was very emotional. When Leah brought Dom (their newborn son) up on stage in victory lane, my heart stopped. I got so emotional there. That is a feeling I have never had in my life before,” Stewart said.
When Stewart announced he was going to drive Leah’s dragster it was framed as just a temporary assignment. However, the more he’s raced, the more Stewart has seemed to embrace the challenge of Top Fuel racing. The question is, when Leah comes back, will the team grow again so Tony can keep getting his nitro fix…
