Last October, veteran racer Rick Snavely was involved in a devastating crash at the Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas when his 2006 Pontiac GTO got loose and took flight over the retaining wall. The impact was tremendous, but luckily Snavely is a strong safety advocate and was well-equipped for such a situation. Safety workers cut Rick out of the car and transported him to the local hospital. The pictures that made it to the internet showed a horrific scene of twisted metal and fiberglass. The report that Rick was injured but would indeed pull through was excellent news, but left some in the drag racing community wondering if he would race again.

Five months later, not only is Snavely back with his California-based Bothwell Motor Sports team, but an expansion is underway for the new year. Bothwell Motorsports announced this week that they’ve teamed up with Rich Zehring Motorsports and will expand to a three-car team. Turbos Direct has also joined the team and will serve as the primary sponsor as part of a two-year deal. Snavely and Zehring will both handle the driving duties – Snavely will start out in the team’s reliably fast 10.5 tire 2005 Mustang capable of speeds over 220 mph. The Bothwell team is adding a new hauler to their inventory and are set to debut the new look on their race cars. The team is currently building two new race cars and rumor has it that one will be a 1969 Chevy Camaro. In the past, the Bothwell team has produced race cars that are not only safe, but competitively fast, and these will assuredly be no different.
