Chevrolet Now Taking Applications For Final Fifth-Gen COPO Camaro

COPO-Mike-PA-01

When it comes to Chevrolet vehicles, the word ‘COPO’ holds a special place in the hearts of performance enthusiasts. The original COPO vehicles were built as a way to circumvent the 400-ci limit in GM cars. The current COPO Camaro is designed to do battle on the track in NHRA competition, and now is your chance to own one.

COPO-Mike-PA-09First of all, Chevrolet is only building 69 2015 COPO Camaros, just like in 1969. And the only way to get a crack at having one is to register here, and hope your name is drawn. Once you register, Chevrolet has an independent company perform a random drawing of all the names. Those chosen names go to Chevrolet’s Central Office, who in turn contacts the people on that list until they fill all 69 slots. This is the same process used on previous model years of the COPO.

“We will go through about 300 people before all of the cars are sold,” says Dr. Jamie Meyer, Performance Marketing Manager at Chevrolet Performance.

COPO-Mike-PA-06The 2015 COPO Camaro’s price ranges from $90,000-$115,000, and there are four engine options, including a naturally aspirated 350, supercharged 350, a 396, and a 427. The different combinations are legal for a variety of NHRA classes. The 427 is an NHRA Factory Showdown class option at four events in 2015.

The 69 lucky people chosen, and able, to finalize a deal go through their Chevrolet dealership of choice for payment and order options. Buyers can choose from black, red, white, and silver, along with a COPO-themed graphics package, and possibly a special commemorative graphic and paint scheme to celebrate the last of the Gen5 COPO cars. “We will contact the buyer when the car is built, let the dealer collect final payment, and we arrange a delivery date for the customer,” Dr. Meyer adds.

The ’15 COPO Camaro could be the last of the COPO cars. Dr. Meyer tells us the GM Performance Team is exploring options for 2016, but nothing is set in stone as of right now. As for the ’15 COPO Camaro, Dr. Meyer says “The COPO Camaro customer demanded that this car return to action; and Chevrolet Performance has worked hard to deliver a premium product for those customers.”

So, provided your wallet can support it, register for your chance to create your own COPO memories.
