Another drag strip that’s been open for over 54 years has closed. State Capital Raceway (SRC) in Port Allen, Louisiana, has ceased operations and will not open for the 2026 season. This shocking announcement was made during the track’s 2025 awards banquet.
SRC has been a very active facility with weekly racing and large events, making stops each season. The track has hosted major national events like the NHRA Cajun Nationals and the IHRA Mardi Gras Nationals. So, on the surface, there has never really been any sign that the track has had any problems attracting big crowds and racers for events.

The track sits on several parcels of land that aren’t under all of the same ownership. Sources have stated the lease for the parcel of land on which the top end of the drag strip sits is no longer available to the track. This makes it impossible to race at the facility since it can’t be reconfigured to deal with this loss of land.
Hopefully, a deal can be struck to allow the track to use the land at the top end again and continue operations. It’s never a good situation when a long-standing drag strip has to shut its doors so unexpectedly.
