It was a great weekend for AFCO Racing sponsored cars at the last weekend’s Kooks Custom Headers NMCA Muscle Car Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, PA. One of AFCO’s local customers, Doug Duell of Newburgh, IN, powered his 2009 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak to the final round of the Late Model HEMI Shootout, a special race-within-a-race pitting Chrysler’s late model muscle cars against one another.
In the final, Duell met Eddie Rosa’s Georgia-based Charger, with Doug taking the win with a 9.97 against Eddie’s game 10.02. Both cars are equipped with AFCO shocks and springs. AFCO manufactures a full line of suspension components, including shocks, springs, and brakes for drag racing, muscle car, and performance vehicles; including Dodge’s late model Challenger and Charger offerings.
Meanwhile, in Nostalgia Pro Street, Kevin Parent made his return to NMCA competition after missing the seasons’ first race in his Dart sponsored Nova. Parent qualified second in the class with a stellar 7.43, and advanced to the final where he met new national record holder David Beeson. Parent welded Beeson to the tree in the final round and was never headed as Beeson’s car nosed over at half track.
Duell, Parent, and the rest of the AFCO-backed racers will be back in action July 15-18 at the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing in Joliet, IL.
