Steve Drummond and his team at Drummond Race Cars (DRC) build some of the fastest doorcars on the East Coast, and now Drummond himself is about to jump back behind the wheel of a 250 mph Pro Mod. Drummond and car owner Mike Bradford are ready to unleash their freshly rebuilt 2005 Mustang after a fiery accident in 2015 and the updates to the Mustang will make this team a force in the Pro Modified world in the near future, for sure.
Making a name for himself in the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association, Drummond earned several victories behind the wheel of the Mustang on his way to winning the series championship in 2012. He continued to race the car after the championship in 2012, but in 2015 on his way to a career-best pass of 5.90 at 248 mph, a fuel pressure drop caused a head gasket failure, leading to a devastating fire.
The DRC team went to work stripping the car down and making the repairs along with some improvements. A new front end was put on the car that relocated the titanium fuel cell and oil tank to a better location. A new and more aerodynamic Tim McAmis Performance Parts 2009 Mustang nose was added to the car, and the chassis also went on a large diet to help make it more lightweight for Pro Modified competition. DRC also took the time to upgrade the power the car made by improving the in-house built 526 cubic-inch Ford motor. The Performance Transmissions-built TH400 behind the motor is matched with a new ProTorque converter.
Drummond has already run an impressive 3.96 while testing the car recently at Maryland International Raceway as the team prepares to take the car out for racing soon. You can expect to see Drummond running with the NEOPA again along with some possible PDRA races.
