The closing weekend of August was a huge weekend for two of Garrett Turbochargers’ biggest names. Reigning NMCA Pro Mod champ Steve Summers wheeled his swoopy 1970.5 Camaro past newly-crowned season champ Michael Biehle II in the final round at the NMCA World Street Finals in Norwalk Ohio, taking the event win and ripping off the quickest pass in NMCA Pro Mod history!

Summers needed all he could muster as he and Biehle both eclipsed the current class record of 5.85 seconds; Summers to the tune of a 5.80 while Biehle followed close behind with a 5.83, making the final round the quickest side-by-side pass in class history. The race win would cap a solid season for Summers, who finished second in the championship points after winning the title in 2014.

Luton2Also taking place the same weekend was the Street Car Super Nationals at the Gateway Motorsports Park in St. Louis. Newly introduced to the SCSN, the 315 vs 10.5’s class pitted the two popular small-tire formats head-to-head in a unique format: all of the radial cars raced until a winner was crowned (Taylor Lastor) and all of the 10.5’s raced until THEY crowned a winner (Mark Luton), then the two champs faced off to decide who took home the title.

Luton wheeled the Modular Mustang Racing hot rod to a blistering 4.09 to take the win as Lastor’s nitrous flames extinguished just before half track, though it would have taken a stellar pass to take out the mod-motor powered Mustang of Luton.

Summers utilizes a pair of Garrett’s Pro Mod class standard 88mm turbochargers while Luton’s MMR ten-five machine is sporting a pair of Garrett GTX 4718’s featuring 85.9mm-sized compressor wheels. Luton boasts that in 15+ years of running Garrett snails, they’ve not experienced a single failure. Garrett turbos have propelled MMR cars to the 2014 NMCA championship, the current points lead in PSCA 10.5, and three Pro Mod runner-ups to go along with the SCSN triumph.

“Simply amazing products!” Luton said in closing, offering high praise for Garrett from the MMR Team.
