When it comes to building a premier drag racing event, the details matter. From track prep to race flow to competitor experience, every piece has to come together seamlessly. That’s exactly why Nate Prater and the team behind Street Car Braggin Rights (SCBR)are making a strategic move ahead of the 2026 event.

The announcement of Gavin Carter as race director for this year’s event at Rockingham Dragway signals a clear intent to elevate the event to the next level.

Since its debut in 2022, SCBR has carved out a reputation as a must-attend event for racers and fans alike. The formula has been simple but effective, creating a competitive environment with multiple classes while maintaining an enjoyable, well-run experience.

Multi-day drag racing events require precision planning, strong leadership, and a team that understands how to keep things moving efficiently without sacrificing quality. That’s where the addition of Carter becomes a game-changer.

“Having someone who is experienced with a multi-day event, and the multiple classes we run, will help us elevate the experience for 2026 and beyond,” said Prater. “Carter has been the go-to choice for many events, and this year, our schedules lined up where he could join our team.”

Carter’s resume reads like a blueprint for modern drag racing event management. A member of the Drag Illustrated 30 Under 30, Carter has built a reputation as one of the sport’s most versatile and respected race directors.

His journey started early, at just 15 years old at Memphis Motorsports Park, and from there, he’s worked his way through nearly every aspect of the sport. That hands-on experience has given him a deep understanding of what it takes to run a successful event, from track prep to race operations to competitor relations.

Carter’s background includes leadership roles at some of the biggest and most demanding events in drag racing:

  • Drag Illustrated Winter Series – Race Director
  • TX2K – Race Director / Track Prep
  • World Cup Finals – Race Director / Track Prep
  • Surface Performance Solutions & Sick Prep – Event Management, Consulting, and Track Prep

In addition to those marquee events, Carter has served as race director for major sanctioning bodies like the PDRA Drag Racing Series and the NMRA/NMCA. He’s also held management roles at top-tier facilities, including Virginia Motorsports Park and Bradenton Motorsports Park, two tracks known for hosting high-profile events with demanding logistics.

With SCBR continuing to grow, those responsibilities only become more complex.

Carter’s experience across different racing formats, from street car shootouts to professional-level drag racing, gives him a unique ability to adapt and optimize event operations. That versatility is exactly what SCBR needs as it continues to expand.

As the 2026 event approaches, all eyes will be on Rockingham to see how this new chapter unfolds. One thing is certain, when you combine a passionate team, a proven race director, and a legendary track, the potential is there for something special.
