S&W Race Cars Founder, Former IHRA Champ Scott Weney Passes Away

Weney2It’s with heavy hearts that we bring the news of the passing of Scott Weney this brisk November afternoon. Scott was a beloved member of the drag racing, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Scott wore many hats in the motorsports arena; he was a world championship-winning Top Alcohol Funny Car driver, a multifaceted craftsman and chassis builder, a successful businessman, and most recently, an enthusiastic race promoter. Successful in everything he did, Weney leaves behind a huge void in the hearts and minds of his fellow racers, customers and race fans across the country. Condolences flooded into both Scott’s personal Facebook profile as well as S&W Race Cars’ Facebook page as word of Scott’s passing reached the racing community.

Weney1While Scott’s accomplishments were numerous, the highlights of his life, at least those that pertain to racing, would have to include racing to the 2000 World Championship in IHRA’s Top Alcohol Funny Car class in the Sheetz-sponsored Corvette-bodied funny car. Weney would also be proud of the company he leaves behind in S&W Race Cars, a successful chassis shop that not only built and campaigned many of their own cars, but also sold a diverse product line from complete rolling chassis and a plethora of components. Recently Weney joined forces with legendary sportsman and bracket racer Scotty Richardson to form S&S Race Promotions, a partnership which produced the recently-completed its first event, the “Fun in the Sun” bracket series at Bradenton Motorsports Park.

In a post on the S&W Facebook page, the Weney family share the following:

“Scott is survived by wife Candi, Son’s Rory & Dillon, Brother’s Michael & Gary, Sister Terri, Parents Walter & Vonda. The entire Weney family wants to express their gratitude to everyone who has prayed and offered support during these difficult days. They also wanted to clearly state that Scott spent his last moments at a place that he considered ‘home,’ which is the drag strip.”

Godspeed, Scott Weney. You will certainly be missed.
