We often speak of the iconic HEMI as “the godfather” of high horsepower Chrysler power, but this Coronet gives us a sturdy reminder to not count out the Hemi’s illegitimate brother – the 440 big block Chrysler. Thanks to high demand for aftermarket 440 parts, all aluminum 500″ strokers like what’s in this tire-terrorizer have gone from a dream on a drawing board to an easily attainable setup.

Instead of gutting this car, just about the entire stock interior right down to the rear bench seat, though obviously a few slight adjustments have been made to fit the roll cage, switch panel, gauges and shifter. Out back a minitub was needed to fit these meats and the car gets ‘hooked up’ with the help of the ever-so-popular 4 link type rear suspension with Strange coil-over shocks. All the stock suspension junk up front was trashed also in favor of coil-overs and a Bob Performance K member to shed some weight off the nose and gain some space.

When Mayhew first got this car out to the track converter troubles plagued their one an only run which was a 10.0 letting off early. With a fresh converter on the way, the crew at Mayhew is hoping they can get this Coronet solidly into the 9’s on an all motor pass, and hinted that a little hit of nitrous could be in the works soon. If it’s any indication, the rear of this car is getting a little nip and tuck to install a parachute and work on a lighter bumper. Mayhew certainly paid attention to every little detail in the looks department, but will it run the number they’re looking for?
