It used to be that all Mustangs had a Ford engine in them, but the platform is such a hit with the drag racing crowd that people began dropping small-block Chevys and LS engines in them. That thought has spread to include even Hemi engines, as well.
Team Z Motorsports’ new Fox Outlaw K-member makes it easy to put whatever engine you prefer in your Mustang drag car. Its design and construction allows for increased capacity oil pans, and since the Outlaw K-member uses motor plates, that makes it easy to add your choice of engine. The chromoly Outlaw K-member bolts in the stock Fox location, and is available as a kit or individual components.
The Outlaw K-member kit includes the K-member, lower control arms, coilover kit, tie-rod kit (welding required), and a Stiletto steering rack. With the K-member, lower control arms, and Stiletto steering rack, Team Z’s Outlaw rack features proper steering geometry. Available separately are 2-inch drop spindles, and your choice of Strange Engineering, Afco, Koni, or Santhuff struts. The Outlaw K-member is also available for 1994-’98, and 1999-’04 Mustangs, as well. Team Z also has motor plates compatible with most engine combinations.
The car Team Z’s Outlaw K-member is installed in here is Andy Fangman’s Hemi-powered Fox coupe.
“The engine was built by my father, Tom Fangman.” Andy says. “It’s a Brad Anderson 5-headed TFX, 540-inch Hemi originally owned and raced by Kenny Bernstein.” In Fangman’s Fox, it utilizes a ProCharger F-1X blower with a Supercharger Store gear drive. Behind the Hemi is a Reid-cased PTC Powerglide and converter. Moran 500 lb/hr injectors take commands from a Big Stuff 3 engine management system, and the Hemi runs on methanol.
For those in the market, Team Z’s Outlaw K-member sells for $1,679.
