Texas Speed & Performance Raises The Bar With In-House Camshaft Grinding

If you’ve spent any time chasing horsepower in the LS or Gen V LT world, you already know the camshaft is the heartbeat of the combination. Texas Speed & Performance is taking that heartbeat to another level with its fully in-house camshaft grinding operation.

By controlling the process in-house, Texas Speed can produce high-quality camshafts. Issues like lobe “peeling” from overheating during grinding or that annoying valvetrain “whistle” caused by improper lobe finish is mitigated. The result is a camshaft that not only performs better, but lives longer and runs quieter.

At the core of this operation are state-of-the-art Landis CNC camshaft grinders, including an LT1VE unit. Modern Landis CNC equipment allows Texas Speed to create aggressive and more precise lobe designs. These machines provide accuracy within 0.1 degree of intake centerline and virtually dead-on duration numbers.

Texas Speed didn’t stop at buying top-tier grinders, they built an entire process around quality.

Each camshaft goes through:

  • Precision polishing with verified Ra surface finish
  • Burn testing to confirm zero thermal damage during grinding
  • Inspection on an Andrews EZ Cam Profile Measuring machine
  • Laser engraving for traceability and part identification

The cam grinding process and the machines behind it is very interesting. Texas Speed actually pulls the curtain back even more on its website and shows you cams being born. You rarely get the chance to see performance parts being made like this, so make sure to check out the videos Texas Speed has shared.
