February may be the shortest month of the year, however living in the Midwest in February can be one of the longest months of the year — especially if your passion revolves around the spirit of the automotive hobby. For many, the smell of high octane fuel at the race track, or pulling into the local the cruise-in won’t be realized until Mother Nature releases winter’s cold grip. Fortunately, there’s an upcoming weekend of respite for passionate performance enthusiasts and racers in and around the Chicagoland area from February 20-21, thanks to the Race and Performance Expo.

The Race and Performance Expo, among many things, is a place for anyone interested in cars, trucks, and racing to connect with manufacturers, race tracks, builders, and retailers under one roof. Located at the Renaissance Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois, the 9th Annual Race and Performance Expo is in a new location this year, and boasts more than 200 exhibitors spanning over 100,000 square feet of space.

“I started this show nine years ago in a 35,000 square foot area,” shared RP Expo Founder, Jim Bingham. “My goal for this show back when it started was to give anyone the opportunity to experience the passion and excitement of the automobile. The show has really gained a lot of momentum over the years, and it was pretty clear to me that we needed more space. So, after eight years at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, we decided to move the show to the Renaissance in Schaumburg. We now have more space and exhibitors than ever before. All are welcome and we guarantee a great experience at an exceptional value.”

One of the more recognizable personalities that will be in attendance is Edelbrock’s Performance Chairman, Vic Edelbrock, a regular at the RP Expo. He will help showcase the latest wares from Edelbrock, and talk to the thousands of people in attendance. “The RP Expo has become a destination for many automotive enthusiasts,” states Edelbrock. “It’s been amazing to be a part of this show since its inception, and to see the growth firsthand. This show hosted the very first Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge, which is a youth initiative very near and dear to me, and aimed at getting kids involved in automotive and hot rodding. This competition has had a huge impact on the future of a lot of kids, thanks to Jim Bingham and the support from industry companies.”
