How many street legal cars can you think of that pack 3,000 horsepower, run over 200 mph, and are still tax and MOT-insured? Not many, if any. But Billy The Kid brought exactly that to the National Finals at Santa Pod Raceway with his insane Bentley Continental, proving its incredible street worthiness and track capability. The weekend kicked off with the monstrous Bentley, built on a John Webster chassis with a Steve Morris twin-turbo V8, hitting the track. Bill’s initial goal was simple: a low-boost shakedown pass to ensure everything was sound. The car delivered immediately, laying down an impressive 7.74-second run at 184 mph on an unprepped surface.
But drag racing always throws curveballs. During a later qualifying attempt, the car was noticeably off the pace. The team’s data logs quickly revealed that a faulty throttle position sensor (TPS) was to blame, pulling boost and slowing the car. After a quick swap and a tune tweak, the Bentley roared back, clocking a personal best of 7.35 seconds at 195 mph.
Sunday morning brought a renewed focus. With the Bentley now fully dialed in, Billy The Kid uncorked a phenomenal 7.28-second pass at 204 mph, laying down the quickest ET of the entire weekend. This was a massive personal best and solidified the car’s position as a serious contender. The team’s incredible run, unfortunately, concluded in the semifinals. Despite the car’s performance throughout the weekend, Bill red-lit, ending their shot at the final. It’s a cruel part of drag racing, but for Bill, the positives far outweighed the disappointment. “It was just highs and lows of drag racing. I didn’t see the red light,” he said.
