Turbo by Garrett virtually dominated the NMCA’s premier categories at the World Street Finals in Indianapolis this weekend, garnering three series championships, two race wins, and a number one qualifying effort by customers running Garrett snails on their machines.
Garrett customers were part of an impressive trifecta in the Radial Wars category; Marty Stinnett, driving his small-block powered Ford Mustang, charged to the top of the qualifying heap in the final session with a stout 3.88 to lead the field into eliminations. In the end, it came down to three Garrett-equipped racers — Stinnett, Josh Klugger, and DeWayne Mills — vying for the hardware, with the former two racers still battling for the class championship.
Mills, in his twin GTX5533R 88mm-fed Golden Gorilla Camaro, ousted Stinnett and ended his title chances, giving the crown to Klugger. In the final, Mills pounced on Klugger, taking a 3.88 to 3.97 victory, giving him the season-ending race victory and Klugger the championship.
In Pro Mod, the drama was no less intense, as Steve Summers, the 2014 series champion, came into the weekend sitting third in the points and needing the cards to be dealt his way to claim a second title with his GTX5533R-powered Camaro. With points leader Adam Flamholc not in attendance and Jason Hamstra bowing out in round two, Summers needed to march all the way through eliminations and win the event to earn the championship. And that he did, defeating fellow Garrett Turbo racer Mark Luton (running twin GTX4718R’s) in the final round, with low elapsed time of the race, a 3.80, no less.
And in Street Outlaw, Charlie Cooper advanced all the way to the final round in his Garrett-turbocharged Fox-body Mustang, coming up short of Daniel Pharris for the event crown but earning enough points to seal the NMCA class championship.
