Two of the top turbocharged NHRA-legal Pro Modified racers in the sport will be teaming up in 2015 for a formidable two-car effort, it was announced this week.
Noted radial tire-turned-Pro Modified racer Kevin Fiscus has joined forces with good friend Jim Bell and his JB’s Power Centre team in an effort that will have all the right parts and personnel in place to pose a serious threat for the championship at any venue they show up at. Fiscus, from Jacksonville, Florida, will be taking over the reigns of Bells’ Jerry Bickel Race Cars-built 2013 Ford Mustang that was damaged in a violent crash at the PDRA series opener in Rockingham back in April. Larry Larson and his team at Larson Race Cars are completing the repairs on that car in time for the new year.
A ProLine Racing Hemi powerplant will be fitted in the Mustang, reportedly with a three-speed Lenco behind the twin-turbo horsepower.
Bell meanwhile, who hails from Alberta, Canada, will continue to drive the Bickel-built ’68 Camaro that he purchased from Rickie Smith after the crash and drove to wins at the Street Car Super Nationals Anarchy at the Arch and the Shakedown at the Summit in Norwalk. Bells’ Camaro is propelled by a twin-turbo ProLine 481X.
Both Fiscus and Bell intend to contest all ten NHRA Pro Modified Drag Racing Series races, and will also have a presence in the PDRA Pro Boost class and at both Street Car Super Nationals events, in St. Louis and Las Vegas.
The two racers will have a tall order in improving what was a spectacular season for each in 2014. Fiscus, driving he and Josh Kluggers’ R2B2 Race Cars-built Mustang, qualified at all ten NHRA Pro Mod races (one of just three drivers to do so) and finished the season third in points. Bell, for his part, bounced back from his early-season crash and won the two aforementioned events, ultimately finishing the year 18th in NHRA points and seventh in the PDRA.
