Import racing in the United States has been going strong for a number of years, and despite various sanctioning bodies coming and going, the import racers still find a way to line their cars out and do some work at the track. Over on the east coast, Maryland International Raceway holds some of the biggest events that feature the best import racing in the country. At this year’s IREV Import Revolution race things got a bit hairy for Jonathan Reynolds and his Prayoonto Racing All-Motor Honda Civic at the top end of the track.
Most people don’t associate the Honda Civic with any form of racing due to the cars’ economical work horse nature, but the Civic has been one of the most popular vehicles used by import tuners at the drag strip in boosted, nitrous fed, and all-motor form. You can even find various generations of Civics on road courses and autocross where the car has captured multiple championships.
Jonathan Reynolds is not a rookie by any stretch of the imagination in the world of drag racing, as he’s been wheeling cars for over seven years, is a 2010 NSCRA Champ, and has set some records in the import drag racing world. Jonathan’s current ride is the Prayoonto Racing powered 8th generation Honda Civic. This car is powered by one of Prayoonto’s Signature Series 2.7 K Series engines — a potent motor that’s filled with the good stuff when it comes to parts, including Praytoonto Signature Series Stage 6 Cams, Brian Cower rods and crankshaft, JE Pistons, and a Supertech valve train. All of the power is put to the ground through a Clutchmasters FX600 clutch and Pfitzner Performance transmission. This setup makes over 400 horsepower to the wheels and has pushed the Civic to the low 9’s at over 150 mph.
In this video from TheRacingVids the car makes what appears to be a nice 9.12-second, 148 mph pass, but it looks like part of the rear bumper cover fails and causes the car to cross the track and tag the wall at the top end.
