Internet drama and drag racing go hand in hand, but rarely does it reach a fever pitch like the Cleetus McFarland vs Joel Grannas battle. Most of the time, racers will chirp at each other on social media with nothing coming of it, but that’s not the case with these two stick shift racers. This rivalry was settled on the track, and there’s a good chance these racers will meet again soon.
The fire was lit when Grannas missed the semi-final class call for the Stick Shift class at FL2K. He was the number one qualifier for the event and had pulled an all-nighter to get his Supra ready after an issue the day before. Grannas went to social media claiming it was a conspiracy that he didn’t make the round, and he didn’t hear the class call. Ultimately, McFarland went on to win the event.
Things got more intense when the Cleetus McFarland army jumped on the bandwagon and rose up against Grannas. The memes flowed like race gas into a fuel cell. Finally, McFarland laid down a callout for the ages. He challenged Grannas to meet at Bradenton Motorsports Park to run for a cool $15,000. Grannas didn’t flinch and was ready to be McFarland’s huckleberry.
The stage was set for an epic grudge race, and it was even streamed on the FDRM+ channel. When the race kicked off, McFarland, behind the wheel of Leroy the Savage, got the jump. Grannas and his Supra quickly ran McFarland down and were pulling away before an engine failure silenced the Toyota. You can see the entire race unfold in this video that McFarland shared on his YouTube channel.
