NHRA Pro Stock is the home of the big boys in naturally-aspirated racing competition, but Erica Enders-Stevens has been steadily changing that perception, making Pro Stock a home for the ladies as well. This season she’s stepped into the driver’s seat of an RJ Race Cars-built Camaro owned by Richard Freeman’s Elite Motorsports team, and so far has performed extremely well. Like championship-contender well.
This video, entitled Racing In Red Episode 1 and part of an upcoming series, follows along with the Elite Motorsports team during their test sessions prior to the season’s first race. It’s an interesting look into Elite Motorsports and Enders-Stevens’ history in racing, with plenty of awesome behind-the-scenes footage on what goes into taking a Pro Stock program to the front of the pack. There are interviews with her engine builder, Jake Hairston, along with crew chief Rickie Jones, Jr., RJ Racecars proprietor Rick Jones, and others through the course of the video.Â
At the season’s opening race in Pomona, Enders-Stevens qualified fifth in her first outing with the car, eventually losing to V. Gaines in the second round of competition. In Phoenix she qualified in the second spot and went out in the second round, this time to former crew chief Dave Connolly. At the Gatornationals, she again qualified second and went all the way to the final round before losing to Allen Johnson.
Most recently, she doubled up in Las Vegas – winning the K&N Horsepower Challenge on Saturday over Dave Connolly and the race on Sunday over Jason Line to take home a fat $100,000 payout for the weekend’s exploits. She’s currently leading in the Pro Stock points standings in her bid to become the first-ever female Pro Stock champion.
Although the video’s 23 minutes long, we found it riveting and enjoyed the watch – hopefully you will also.
