Thank goodness for the advent of small on-board cameras like the GoPro and others.  We can all go along for the ride in some incredible machines these days in which nearly every vehicle in every form of racing is carrying at least one camera capturing the action.

West coast Wild Street and Drag Radial competitor David Schwarz had a camera mounted aboard his 1988 Ford Mustang at the recent PSCA California Nationals in Fontana, CA where he reset the Wild Street 275 Drag Radial E.T. and MPH records with a 7.63 at 188 MPH in the final round. On this particular pass, Schwarz laid down a stellar 7.64 at 188 that eventually served as the backup for the quicker 7.63 later in the day.

The run takes us through the staging process, where the big turbocharger begins to spool up before being unleashed at the drop of the green. From there, Schwarz and his ‘Stang are on a mission, with the nose hiked up and storming through the Fontana quarter mile with only a little wiggle around the 330-foot marker. And then, 7.63 seconds later David throws the laundry and the whistling beast goes virtually silent. It takes longer to pull the gloves off than it does to make the pass, but drag racers wouldn’t have it any other way.
