The Vintage AA Gasser Association had their final event for 2011 at Pittsburgh Raceway Park Saturday Sept. 10th. Unfortunately the event ended up as a rain-out after only the first round of qualifying, but it didn’t stop the drivers from having a grand time. Seven cars were on hand for the show with the top spot going to Mike Campolucci in the 1933 Willys after running a 5.11 in the eighth mile. John Foust was second in his ’33 Willys with a 5.36, and the original Bizio 33 Willys Pick up owned by the Cryan Brothers followed for the 3rd spot with a 5.48.
The Pro Fuels top speed of the meet went to John Foust running 135.60 mph in the 1/8th mile. Pro Fuels also supplied the best reaction time award to Steve Beven with a .074! The highlight of the day was a donation from Jeff Cryan and the members of the association to Gordon Crowe, who crashed his car at the previous event, to help aid in the rebuilding of his car.
2011 marks the first full year as an organization the AA/Gassers, and like any racing organization it’s the wonderful world of sponsorship that make it all happen. The Vintage group was sponsored by both individuals and tracks including Phil and Dee Morris of Gasser Wars Magazine, Richard Moore, Billy Leveretz- Oddy Automotive, Morton Classics, Coverdale Accounting, Roz Black, Pro Fuels, Thompson Raceway Park, Dragway 42, Dunn Tire Raceway, and Pittsburgh Raceway Park.
