Vortech Racers Make Noise At Street Car Super Nationals

Vortech’s V-30 line of all-out racing superchargers made their presence widely known at the 13th annual Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada, powering customers to the winner’s circle and new personal bests.

For Brian Brooks, his V-30 105A supercharger made all the difference, as he powered his Fox body Mustang, powered by an Atlas Performance-built mill, to the 275 Radial crown. Brooks began his march to the title with a 4.48-second defeat of Doug Driggers in round one, before defeating Tom Marshal in the second round with a 4.47.

On the opposite side of the ladder, one of the nation’s top Vortech-powered racers, Chris Groves, was having a stellar weekend of his own. Groves qualified No. 2 in his Fox body ‘Stang and worked his way through to the semifinals, where he and Brooks met in a clash of Vortech-boosted Fox bodies. There, Brooks got the upper hand with a stout 4,44 to Groves’ right-there 4.47.

In the finale, Brooks laid down a 4.48 to drive away from opponent Greg Henschell and capture the SCSN hardware. His consistency — four runs on raceday within .04-seconds — illustrated well the consistency and efficiency of the Vortech V-30 blower.

Over in Outlaw 8.5, Dragzine’s own Project Evil 8.5 made a little noise — literally — with its Vortech V-30 102A supercharger, qualifying fourth with a 4.76 at 153 mph. Although the team put together a series of strong 4.7-second laps (4.79, 4.74 and 4.76), the run came to an end in the semifinals in a close race with Ricky Daniels. “We turned it up too aggressively and spun inside the 60-foot mark, yet still only lost by .003 at the stripe.” The EVIL 8.5 will be back soon and looking for more victims, so keep an eye out for them,” commented driver James Lawrence.
