Xtreme Pro Mods West Revives Fast Doorslammer Racing On West Coast

As times have changed, so has the degree of entertainment options vying for our paychecks. Companies have had to change the way they do business in order to keep current customers as well as gain new ones. Drag racing has been no different. In fact, racing as whole still struggles in “numbers” to this very day. Some say the West Coast drag racing scene has taken an even harder hit compared to the east coast, partly due to more mild climates which equates to more things to do, and the fact that the West is more spread out. There are more tracks per square mile east of the Mississippi, giving racers plenty of options, so it’s very tough to get East coast runners to travel West unless its a big payday.

The Pro Mod class has always been exciting, but just like anything, it got expensive, and eventually the West Coast car counts began to dwindle. The Premier Street Car Association, founded by Mel Roth, was the first to bring the class out west. Over the years many others have tried, but the classes were eventually left out due to lack of participation and expensive operating costs. Thus, Pro Mod racing out west has largely been limited to single events a handful of times a year. These days, some West Coast teams are making the trek back east to run the NHRA Pro Mod Series, the PDRA, and NMCA, simply out of necessity.DSC_6824

So in 2016, the Renteria brothers, Sean and Michael, with the help of legendary Pro Mod racer Kirk Kuhns, started the Xtreme Pro Mod West Series to help revive the class out west. Their main goal? Great racing and competitiveness for everyone, regardless of budget.

All NHRA Advanced ET/Pro Mod are allowed in effort to keep continuity amongst other programs. Power adder and weight combinations exist for roots and screw blowers, twin turbos, nitrous oxide. The 2017 schedule includes five races at prime venues, including The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho, Sonoma Raceway in Northern California, and the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California (run in conjunction with the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion).

The Renteria brothers told us, “we like to keep things simple, and when changes are needed, decisions are made collectively. We want make this as fair as possible so people enjoy coming to race with us, after all, we just want to race.”

Nearly twenty cars have joined the organization, and among those names are some big ones: Rick Snavely, former NHRA U.S. Nationals winner, and Mike Maggio, SCSN Outlaw Pro Mod Champion 2016 are just a couple of the names involved in this organization. The Xtreme Pro Mods west really hopes to gain moment and welcomes anyone who wants to race with them! The Xtreme Pro Mod series will run five events in 2017; Las Vegas, Sonoma(2), Boise, and Bakersfield.
