We had a pretty drastic weather change over night for the final day here in Bradenton. The DA is hovering around 900 feet this morning but there is a lot of water in the air and some fairly heavy fog overnight till about nine AM delaying the start time today. We have the first three second Outlaw Pro Mod field this weekend and there should be some tight racing n both the qualified and second chance field. Jimmy Stoupas took delivery of a new Pro Mod rolling chassis this weekend. The Nikos Racing crew has three cars this weekend with Katie Stoupas running 6.50 Index and Bracket and their daughter Alexi running 7.90 Index Jr. Dragster, She is the 7.90 Jr. Index 2014 Champion. The Camaro is a Rick Jones chassis and was run in Division one Top Sportsman and some Pro Mod events. Jimmy has a Buck Racing 785 with Switzer Dynamics nitrous, the same combo the new car had so the learning curve should be fairly short after the swap.Rob Briscoe is not quite where he wants to be despite qualifying number one in Outlaw 632. The Chassis was done and updated at Tube Carz and is powered by a Nelson Competition 632 with Applied Nitrous Technology systems. He just switched to an M&M three speed transmission and is running a converter from Converter Designs. Hank Hill assisted some on the chassis set up this weekend.Phil Esz is the top qualifier in Open Outlaw this weekend. Phil ran the Top Dragster in the PDRA series this year and his Ultrasonic LLC sponsored the Ultra Four Shootout at the PDRA this year. He holds the PDRA record at 3.67 and has been a .68 and .69 so far. The combo is a BAE 500 inch topped with a Hammer supercharger based on a Fowler F11 case backed by a Snyder Motorsports Lenco drive trans with an NCRC converter. Phil is partnered in the car with Ron Bales. Other sponsors include R&R connecting rods, Arias Pistons and Fowler Engines.We spoke with Artie McElwee this morning, car owner of the Powershield Coating dragster driven by his brother Mark. They hurt a cylinder at the last race int he final after hurting an engine testing back in October so the crew took a look and re evaluated their engine program on the break. They have redone the fuel system to supply more fuel at DMPE with Darren Mayer.

Brian Keep and Ari Birchfield were the first pair out in Ultra Street and we got the heads up to watch the truck. He took the advantage at the hit and went on to win the round with a 4.992 at 139.34 making the first four second pass under Bradenton's Ultra Street rules. Tim Hendricks left hard, yanking the wheels on his way to a win over Rob Orsino.In round one of Outlaw 632 Jordan Ensslin got into tire shake almost immediately in his match with J.R. Akins shutting it off as Akins went down straight running a 4.63 at 151.Troy vs. Troy was up next with Pirez going red and wheel standing in his loss to Troy Blake who ran a 4.49, besting his qualifying ET by nearly a tenth.Anthony Masiello also improved running a 4.47 at 160 taking out James Horvath who had issues and shut down to a 11.73.The upset of the round came when Dave French and Rob Briscoe lined up. Briscoe put up a 4.44 at 158 but trailed some smoke near the finish line and his off pace 158 MPH suggested he may have hurt it. Dave will advance to round two with his 4.70 at 154.Heather Carter had a single after Mike Schmidt didn’t make it to the waterbox. She put up a 4.56 at 155 and is running well in her second time out after a runner up finish at the Citrus Nationals at PBIR.Tom Lee struggled with tire shake in qualifying and think he may have a broken shock from the severe shake he experienced so they swapped shocks for the Outlaw 632 second chance eliminations paying off with a 4.40 at 158. That’s gonna leave a mark as Lee is the only naturally aspirated car here this weekend. The car is a former Pro Stock car and is running an older Pro Stock engine all owned by Tom Lee.

Pro Drag Radial had four cars left today with Chad Opaleski facing Mel Nelson and Josias Reyes paired with Scott Husted. Chad put up a 4.43 to take out Nelson with Husted easily out pacing Reyes' street car with a wheelie and a 4.58 to Reyes 5.69.

Tracy Stunkard and Ron Logan were next up with Logan shaking early in the run. Open Outlaw had some good racing with Mark McElwee and Eric Floyd first out. McElwee was off pace with a 4.32 at 186, pedaling after some shake early in the run.Andy Johnson runs a unique engine combo in Open Outlaw with a Procharged big Chevy powering the 2013 Spitzer chassis. His 3.81 at 192 was better than his qualifying run, he took the win with John Alberigi scraping the wall near the 330.Phil Esz improved to a 3.67 at 199, matching his PDRA record pace in a win over Wade Nunnelly.Chris Rini just edged his qualifying ET in a match with Taylor Lastor who also put up his best run. Rini took the win with a 3.812 at 195 to Lastor’s 3.89 at 192.Mike Stawicki (far lane) took a close match with Jimmy Keen. Near identical reaction times and a best of weekend 3.85 at 193 for Stawicki while Keen was close to his qualifying numbers with a 3.868 at 193.Fast Frank Cersosimo took out Kevin Fiscus on the tree with a .058 light to Fiscus’ .099. At the strip Fiscus was 3.849 at 202 to Franks 3.87 at 193, both racers had their best run of the weekend.Shannon Jenkins (near lane) took out Robert Abbott with a stellar 3.79 at 197 MPH blast to Abbott’s consistent 3.95.

Todd Tutterow took the win for Galot Motorsports in Outlaw Pro Mod after some good runs through the weekend and one lucky round where he got out of the groove and pedaled the car, squeaking by his opponent after they lost a blower belt. He was beat on the tree in the final by .009 but was able to get by Melissa with a 3.69 to her 3.82. Crew this weekend was Lauren, Jim, Ron, Karl and Tristan with some crucial help from Rick Hickman. Phil’s mother Phylis was here this weekend and he dedicated this win to his father Mike Eaz who passed away nearly two years ago. The engine is named Michael 500 after his father.2014 Open Outlaw Champion Melissa Hutson took the runner up spot this weekend in Open Outlaw. Crew is Bobby Holinsworth and his wife along with Scott’s wife Jill Husted.Dillon Voss took the win in OL 632 this weekend setting the ET and MPH record with his 4.411 at 164.02 MPH. They were having some clutch issues today but certainly figured that out in the final against J.R. Akins.Outlaw 632 Runner Up J.R. Akins.Tom Lee showed up with his former Pro Stock car and a new engine just installed Wednesday and struggled with tire shake in testing and qualifying winding up in the OL 632 second chance race. The team traced the issue to a broken rear shock, likely damaged from the tire shake and swapped them out for Sunday’s eliminations and promptly putting up a 4.40 at 158 MPH in round one this morning. Stephen ran the Heads Up Madness series at Sunshine Dragstrip in OL 632 on several occasions prior to the series moving to Bradenton with a Vega. He struggled some figuring out the track this weekend improving to 4.64 at 152 in the final against Tom Lee. The 632 Chevy was built at Stephen’s Adams Automotive and featured two Induction Solutions nitrous systems.Troy Pirez Jr. made it to the winners circle again with the trusty General Lee Innovative Racecraft Pirez/Sanders Racing Mustang taking the win for the first time in Ultra Street. Pirez ran 5.0’s all day meeting Kevin Robinson in the final taking the win with a 5.03 at 140 MPH. Saturday here at Bradenton’s Snowbird Nationals will feature three rounds of qualifying and the Jet Jam night of Fire. We have some cloud cover forecast for today that should help keep track temps a few degrees cooler. The two biggest classes are Pro Mod with twenty four entries and Outlaw 632 with twenty seven. Tim Hendricks is down from Illinois west of Chicago running Ultra Street. Hendricks is a former NMCA racer now running mostly local at Byron and has won a couple of the Ultra Street events there this year. He runs a 434 small Chevy from BES, this is a new engine out for the first weekend. They tested last night running some 330 hits and besting his previous runs. He was swapping a new PTC converter in this morning.As we mentioned yesterday Matt Gilmore damaged his Open Outlaw car hitting the wall at the last event. The team thrashed to make the repairs just wrapping up on Thursday night. Matt Gilmore, Dave Curtis and Alan Stewart did the work on the chassis, basically cutting off the front half and replacing it. Ed Mitchell is the car owner for the Ocala based M&M Racing Firebird running Outlaw 632 this weekend. This is the third time out with the car after purchasing it last year and is driven by John Tyler. We stopped by the Voss Racing pit this morning to catch up with them after Dillon's (pictured at left) 4.42 while testing last night. At right is Mike Murphy (on the left), who will have a car for Outlaw 632 next year, and Kenny Voss were topping of the fuel cell. Voss Racing has four cars that will be running OL 632 for 2015 and are waiting for a finalized rules package and weights for next year. The team did some upgrades on the Cobalt since we last saw them, upgrading the anti roll bar to a much beefier 35 spline unit from Suncoast Race Cars, also increasing the width of the bar to get more leverage on the rear housing which required some re configuring of the rear chassis section. The Cobalt has a 632 Chevy from Voss Racing topped with 14.5 degree valve angle Pontiac heads and Wilson Pro Flow nitrous system. DJ Safety came on board recently as well. Troy Pirez Sr. is sporting fresh paint on the mule, taking the time between other work at Pirez Auto Body to make it shine again after some wall incidents and new fiberglass from heads Up Composits. He runs in OL 632 at 2800 pounds due to weight breaks for the small 275 tire, single carb and conventional heads with ETs mostly in the 4.50 zone.A view from the staging lanes prior to round one qualifying this morning just behind Al Dita’s OL 632 Celebrity.Dave French got some suspension help from Hank Hill last night. They completely reset the 4 link and the car went straight and stopped shaking the tires running a 4.74 so he is back on track.

Brian Keep put his S10 on top of the Ultra Street field with a 5.06 @ 137 this morning.Walter Drakeford was just a bit behind Keep with a 5.07 at 138 for the Real Speed Racing entry.Troy Pirez Jr. did some upgrades to his car since the ODRC here in October replacing his old Pontiac cylinder heads with some Trick Flow castings from PKRE (Paul Klyczek Racing Engines) He ran a 5 flat in testing last night, a personal best with the car. Other companies involved with his program include Fast Forward Race Engines, Induction Solutions and Diamond Pistons came on board with piston sponsorship and his own Innovative Racecraft.Mike Fratena has high MPH in Ultra this session with a 141.59 MPH run, good for third in class.Dillon “The Kid” Voss took number one in OL 632 with a 4.45 at 161.43, also taking top MPH on the run.Robert Briscoe put his 71 Nova in second with a 4.48 at 160.97.Ken Quartuccio landed third with a 4.51 at 159. Quartuccio is new to the class and hails from Wallingford, CT. This is his third or fourth race in the class.Dean Vallese is on the bump after one session with a 5.13 at 139. He had to pedal the car on this run. The photo shows him on the way back down.Mel Nelson was the only Pro Drag Radial car to get a clean pass in round one qualifying. His 4.44 at 173 took the pole.Chad Opaleski has yet to make full good passes since switching to the Hemi. The tune is coming around and they are working on power management. He shut it down after spinning the tires approaching the 60′.Phil Esz made the trip down here from Amelia Ohio for some Open Outlaw action. He took top mph and low ET this round running a 3.69 at 197 MPH. He runs an 06 Spitzer with a 500 inch BAE.Melissa Hutson earned a runner up finish at the ODRC event back in October and is a regular here for the Open Outlaw class. Her 3.75 at 191 was good for second in the field of thirteen cars.Ron Logan and TnA Racing has been on hiatus for a while now but that are back here this weekend. He ran a 4.65 at 171 landing ninth. They have three cars this weekend, this blown 1996 Mullis chassis digger and two children running in Jr. Dragster index.Shannon Jenkins took top qualifier in Outlaw Pro Mod with a 3.832 at 196.07.Chris Rini earned second spot with a 3.85 at 194. He runs an 888 cubic inch bullet from Buck Racing Engines.The Jet Jam at the Snowbird Nationals is always a big hit with the fans and Bob Motz’ insane jet truck is the star of the show. This run broke the quarter miles beams to the tune of 6.97 at 212 MPH.

The Wicked Willy jet funner car paired up with Heatwave and two dragsters from Emery Riddle driven by Elaine Larson and Kat Moller. There was a very good crowd that actually grew later in the afternoon eager for the next Jet Jam session

The final session of qualifying had some shakeups in Outlaw Pro Mod with Todd Tutterow moving to number one from third spot with a 3.815 at 194 MPH in the Galot Motorsports 1969 Camaro. This marks the first three second Outlaw Pro Mod field here at the Snowbird Nationals.Chris Rini also improved his ET to a 3.817 at 196.12, quick enough to hold on to the number two qualifying position.The Open Outlaw order remains unchanged but a swap of the last two cars, most racers did not improve their ET either so Phil Esz help top qualifier with his 3.68 at 199. Mark McElwee put the Powershield Coatings dragster in third behind Melissa Hutson with a 3.74 at 197.Rob Briscoe bumped Dillon Voss back to second in OL 632, improving on his earlier 4.48 pass to a 4.457, just one thousandth quicker than Voss.Anthony Masiello jumped into the field from the thirtieth spot landing third with a 4.49 at 162 earning high MPH in the process.Troy Pirez landed eleventh in OL 632 with a 4.67, he had to pedal the car on his last attempt after getting into a wheel stand.Palm Beach Florida racer Troy Blake improved his way to sixth from well outside the field with a 4.58 in the final session.Jorden Ensslin put the teams 37 Chevy in the OL 632 field at eighth with a 4.63 at 153.Dean Vallese had trouble keeping the front end of the Zombie wagon on the ground today and was unable to make the sixteen car field.Scott Husted pulled the wheels and drove the car to a 4.48 in the final session of PDR after riding it out down track. He should still be number one in Pro Drag Radial with his earlier 4.40.I don’t have a sheet for the final session of Pro Drag Radial but Chad Opaleski put a good run down with a 4.49 at 176 which should place him third.Brian Keep held onto number one spot in Ultra Street improving his ET to a 5.01 at 138.88 with his Ft Meyers based Nitrous Outlet sponsored S-10 truck.Robert Rogers was able to improve to a 5.05 at 138 landing second in class.Troy Jr. knocked .06 off his earlier run improving his position to third.Kevin Robinson is based out of Blythwood, South Carolina and has run several Ultra Street events here in Bradenton. He qualified ninth with a 5.8 at 133.Richard Hutchins brought out his Chevy Rebellion wheel stander putting up a 9.72 at 136.

Bob Motz King of Quake is the fastest jet semi in the world holding numerous records and is powered by a J79 General Electric from a B-58 Bomber or F4 Phantom Fighter pushing 17,500 pounds of thrust. Here he ran a 6.82 at 223 though Bob has been a best 6.34 at 234.
The weather is beautiful here in Bradenton for the last event of 2014 and there is a slew of Pro Mods here to do battle including several which have not run here recently. Tony Johnson has switched from OL 10.5 to Pro Modified purchasing this Mustang formerly campaigned by Terry Leggett. Johnson made it to the final at Mike Hill’s race a few weeks ago and has recorded about 12 laps on the car this year. They made some adjustments since then including a updated converter from Coan and are looking to step up the performance into the three second zone this weekend.Mike Stawicki has not been to Bradenton for several years now. He runs a 2005 C5 Corvette from G-Force with an MSR ( Mike Stawicki Racing) blown hemi topped with a 14/71 blower with Jim and John Salemi on the crew handling the chassis and fuel system and electronics respectively. The car is owned by Tommy Zarella’s TT Motorsports with additional sponsorship from NGK.Andrew Handras is here sporting a new Camaro out of Tommy Mauney’s shop with his Nelson Competition 867 backed by an ATI powerglide. This is the first weekend running this car for Handras. Here the team is swapping on a new set of rear tires.Adam Flomholc recently purchased Brandon Snyder’s screw blown Corvette and will be making his first runs in it this weekend.

There are a lot of Pro Mods here this weekend including several new cars and racers not seen down this way in some time. It's sure to be an exciting weekend for the Pro Modified class. Ultra Street racer Bill Gregan was here testing a new 26×8.5 radial tire just introduced at the SEMA Trade Show. He scored a personal best 5.16 on it but will be running the allowed MT 275 radial in competition this weekend.Kevin Rivenbark (shown) and Todd Tutterow are part of a two car team from Galot Motorsports this weekend. Rivenbark’s first run today resulted in a 4.16 at just 146 clicking it early in the run.Troy Pirez Jr. has been working hard on his set up in The General Lee Ultimate Street Mustang running in the top of the class. On this run the front came up quite a bit and he was able to pedal to a 5.11.In this pairing during today’s testing Chris Rini lined up with Wirth Racing’s Altered Open Outlaw car. Rini lapped a 3.91 at 192 while Wirth a 3.90 at 171 MPH.Andrew Handras put up a 4.47 at 128 on his first pass in the new car. I’ll chat with Andrew later to see how the rest of his day went.Rob Briscoe has some new tricks out of Nelson Competition and a new exhaust featuring the infamous “bullhorns”. His first hit was a 4.51 at 155 MPH, a nice clean pass for him. Word on facebook is the team is looking for .30’s this weekend. There is a class meeting for Outlaw 632 tonight at 8 PM to discuss the 2015 rules package. Some of the topic will be non stock bodies, rear wings and allowable chassis.

Dean Vallese put the Zombi Wagon nearly on the bumper and doing some fine driving to set it down easy. He went through the traps with a 5.25 at 139 and is running OL 632 this weekend. We mentioned Bill Gregan’s testing results earlier on the new MT 26×8.5 radial tire. This run resulted in a 5.20 at 133 MPH using the 275 MT ET Street Radial.Walter Drakeford is a multi time Ultra Street winner running the Real Speed Racing Mustang. He carried the wheels out quite a ways turning a 5.06 at 139 MPH lap. I’d say he is ready for qualifying as it sits.Josh Peel has his twin turbo Willy’s out for some Outlaw Pro Mod action this weekend. He carded a 4.07 at 184 on this run.Local Racer Ken Cruz looked like he got up on the wheelie bars to hard unloading the tires and going into near immediate wheel-spin, he was paired with Peel on this run.Todd Tutterow made a move to the right at the hit in the Galot Motorsports 68 Camaro.Stephen Adams made the haul from Tennessee for some OL 632 action. His first run of the day netted a 4.97 at 141 for the pro 275 radial equipped Camaro. He uses Induction Solutions nitrous system and has been 4.50’s with the car previously.Randy Weatherford has clocked several runs in the 3.80 zone this afternoon showing the WS Construction team is ready for competition.Robert Abbott lost a motor here at the ODRC breaking a crankshaft ending his weekend before eliminations. It’s good to see him back this weekend runnign right where he left off with a 3.93 at 199 MPH this afternoon.Kevin Fiscus is here with the Fiscus/Klugger Racing Pro Modified Mustang. The NHRA legal car is powered by a Pro Line Racing engine.
