NMCA Season Opener Same Day Coverage From Bradenton

SELECT COVERAGE BY DAY:

Record runs and tight racing abound at the NMCA opener this weekend. Jeff Lutz recorded the first 5 second Pro Street run in qualifying this year and we have thirteen cars in class that made runs, though some attrition in qualifying has a couple of cars sitting out today.

Special thanks thanks to the presenting sponsor of our same day event coverage, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels!

Dave Hance made the show after a long ride from New York, breaking down twice in a borrowed toter and getting to the track just in time for the final qualifying session. “I have always enjoyed racing with the NMCA and want to thank Charlie Harmon and track owner Alan Chervitz for keeping in contact with me during the trip and allowing me some time to get unloaded and prepare the car to make the final session, their hospitality is much appreciated.” – David Hance.

Team Baskin is looking to expand is operation adding another LSX All Motor car and something for LSX Real Street as well. The new Mustang in ACT Mean Street is doing ok but Greg DeLaney mention the possibily of switching back to the Chevy II because they are more familliar with the car. Look for them to debut at the All Star race at Commerce next month.

Mike DeMayo is top qualifier in NA 10.5 this weekend with a very nice 8.09. Gaby Labiosa’s EIC Motorsports is now doing the engines for Demayo and he has found a bit more power in the 420 ci inline valve Victor Sr. heads and cast intake small block Ford. The NA 10.5 rules have him about 300 pounds lighter than the Hot Street/Pro Stock rules. Sponsors include Mike Sr.’s Powerhead, Mickey Thompson and EIC Motorsports.

David Hance was paired against Jim Widener in round one of Kooks Pro Street with both cars getting out of shape early. Hance was able to recover first in the pedal fest earning the win.

Mark Kyger rolled the beam in his pairing with Dave Demarco handing him the go ahead win.

Kevin Parent earned the ARP Nostalgia Pro Street win over Skip Baskin in a tight race. Round one was the final for this class here this weekend.

Sean Ashe had the earned single in round one of Stainless Works Street Outlaw. In round two Marty Robertson was pushed back after the burnout after leaking some water giving Ashe another single and the event win.

2012 champion Brandon Alsept pulled David Hill in round one of ACT Mean Street. He pulled the wheels high and went on the round win with a 10.05 @ 131 taking the win over Hill’s 10.24 @ 131. Number one qualifier also ran a 10.05, getting his round with Don Baskin’s foul start setting up a chance at a close final round.

**** No final run due to rain. Pro Street results courtesy NMCADigital.

Kooks Pro Street had some wild rides today with David Hance struggling to keep the car pointed straight on every run, Jeff Lutz running a 6.02 @ 244 on a single for low ET of eliminations and a very tight race with Glidden and Josh Green. Hance got by Jimmy Keen after he faltered and shut down early in the semi finals, the other pair was Glidden and Lutz in a classic Ford vs Chevy and nitrous vs. turbo battle. Glidden had a great .021 light after letting Lutz sit on the brake for a couple of extra seconds. At the stripe it was Glidden's 6.181 @ 205 trailing that tell tale smoke through the lights over Lutz' 6.170 @ 245. Glidden was hurt after the run and commenced an engine swap before the final, which Hance agreed to wait for but mother nature had the last word as the rain came and ended the event for the day with the Pro Street final the only pair left to run.

Mark Micke piloted Jason Carter’s 78 Malibu and ran the table this weekend in Mickey Thompson Super Street. He met with David DeMarco in the final who left on Micke recording a nice .015 reaction but wasn’t able to put a clean run down and clicked it allowing Micke to get around him with a 6.84 @ 192.22 MPH.

Kevin Parent put his 1969 Nova in the winners circle with a .045 light and 7.336 @ 188 over Skip Baskin’s .055 7.432 @ 184.69 in ARP Nostalgia Pro Street.

Sean Ashe also ran the table in Stainless Works Street Outlaw setting the class ET record in the process with a 7.298 run at 195.60. Opponent attrition gave him a bye in the final as Robertson leaked some water after the burnout. It’s been a good weekend for the ATF crew coming away with the season opener NMCA win.

Sadly Phil Smith had no one to race this weekend in Aeromotive Xtreme Street. He ran a 7.971 @ 170.90 on his round one/final pass. Photo courtesy Bryan Epps.

Mike Demayo ran an 8.12, and 8.13 and 8.144 @ 166,91 in the final against Leonard Long in an all Pennsylvania Comp Camp NA 10.5 final. He is also another racer to run the table this weekend. “We all worked hard over the winter and certainly this weekend, it’s a team effort and our hard work paid off with the win at the first race of the year for us” – Mike DeMayo. Teddy Weaver earned number one qualifier and the event win taking out the 2012 ACT Mean Street champion Brandon Alsept in a close final round. Alsept did his job and left first but couldn’t hold on to the lead with his 10.093 @ 131 to Weaver’s 10.050 @ 133 MPH. The UPR Sponsored 2001 Bullitt Mustang has a Roush built 311 ci engine backed by G-Force T-5 transmission and Spec clutch. Jimmy Raniella crewed here this weekend with phone support from Charlie Booze Jr. making tuning calls on the carb. This is his first event and win in Pro Media/NMCA after the Pure Street class was cancelled over at the NMRA.
