Scott Taylor put an exclamation point on what has already been a highly successful 2025 campaign with perhaps the biggest win of his career Sunday afternoon, as he collected the $100,000 top prize at the Speed Promotions Racing ‘The Outlaws’ Small Tire Shootout at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The Mississippi native entered the heavily anticipated small-tire brawl fresh off a win at the Speed Promotions Racing event in Columbus, Ohio a week ago in his new “Lil’ Goldie” 1969 Camaro. Rather than swap over the proven big-tire combination, Scott Taylor unloaded his famed “John Doe” Oldsmobile Cutlass on small tires, now powered by a ProCharger-boosted Hemi.
When things kicked off, 63 drivers made the call for the chip draw for round one of the big-money contest. The opening round was fraught with strong contenders bowing out early, as Kye Kelley, Ryan Mitchell, Brent Austin, Joe “Dominator” Woods, and local favorite Adam Preston all were sent home early.
Scott Taylor pulled a tough racer in Todd Spiers to open the action on Friday evening. Taylor then defeated Jimmy Mayo, Brandon Phillips, and Larry Larson in the first four rounds. In an all Street Outlaws contest for a chance at the final round, Taylor outpowered “Daddy Dave” Comstock and his potent Audi to punch his way into the finale.
Reed, in his supercharged Dodge Daytona, took on Joe Williams, Jason Terrell, Tyler Dommel, and Zach Jones, and then got around another big-tire series regular in Kyle Canion to make his way into the final round for 100-grand.
The conclusion of the race was pushed into Sunday after hard rain showers mid-day Saturday — just prior to the third round of competition that left the racing surface unable to safely continue the racing action.
In the all-ProCharger final round, Reed got out ahead of Taylor, but couldn’t hold off John Doe at the finish line and the race was decided by just half a car length.
“It’s hot, the car was moving everywhere, but one thing I was not going to do was lift. I was going to be off the racing surface if I was going to lift,” Taylor said after the final round that was held in temperatures that soared near 100 degrees.
After a first-round driving mistake in his first time behind the wheel of the Bumble Bee screw-blown Camaro, Woods redeemed himself with a win in the second-chance small-tire race over Roach, another past regular of the No Prep King series.
