Steve Petty and Proline Racing Engines have become extremely well known for catapulting small tire cars down the strip at break neck speeds. A Kuwait-based team, Q80 Racing, owned by Duaij AL-Sabah, enlisted the skills of Proline Racing to propel their team to the front of the pack in their native Bahrain. The popularity of drag racing in the middle east has become apparent.
With Al-Anabi fielding teams state side and the NHRA adding world wide sanctioned tracks such as the Bahrain International Circuit, the competition abroad and the talent needed to run up front are as stringent as ever.
With Petty’s experience the Proline team was an easy choice when determining who would power the Skinny Kid Race Cars-built Outlaw 10.5 Mustang. A pair of 94mm Precision Turbo’s hang off the front of a Proline-built 670 cubic inch mammoth, which from the video, you will see gets the Mustang wastes little time getting down to business.
With Q80 Racing team driver Turky behind the wheel and Petty in attendance to turn the knobs, the season finale in Bahrain was an exceptional, record-setting affair. The team recorded multiple passes in the 6.30’s, with a run as quick as 6.29-seconds at 215 miles per hour lifting at the finish. In the process, however, the Q80 team set the new all-time Outlaw 10.5 speed record at a staggering 238.44 miles per hour, set at the Bahrain International Circuit. That pass “only” netted a 6.33.
