One of the most familiar race cars in Pro Modified history will be sporting a familiar yet refreshing new look as the ADRL seasons opens in March, and it will certainly continue to stand out amongst a sea of swoopy, trick-of-the-week body styles that inhabit the series’ Pro Extreme division.
The fabled “LowMad” 1955 Chevrolet Nomad, which became an icon in heads up doorslammer circles during much of the class’ two decade existence, was officially given its honorable discharge from active duty at the conclusion of the 2010 season. Meanwhile, driver Joey Martin has been busy meticulously preparing a brand new “LowMad” at his own Joey Martin Race Cars shop that will carry on the tradition with another ’55 Noma body adorning the modern chassis and carrying all the latest bells and whistles that should serve to put Martin and Russell Racing back in contention in the cut throat supercharged category. The former LowMad recorded several low 3.7-second laps and if the new chariot is any improvement – as it almost certainly will be – these guys ought to be right in the mix.
The LowMad offspring will sport an entire new look with an eye-catching paint scheme designed by noted drag racing artist and designer Greg Ozubko that will partially retain the familiar yellow color combined with a striking new array of colors from the pallet. The original LowMad turned heads for more than a decade on the Pro Modified scene, and from the looks of things, the newest incarnation is poised to do just the same upon its debut and into the future. Kudos to this bunch for maintaining the character with their race car that made this class famous, regardless of whether it presents a small disadvantage or not.
