Update 10/29: A Missouri State Highway Patrol report has confirmed what sources have told us about the accident. According to the report, JFR crewmember Steve Cleavenger was behind the wheel of the Freightliner tractor trailer hauling Brittany Force’s Top Fuel Dragster when an eastbound Chevrolet Aveo driven by Sierrah Gaines crossed the median, went through the cable fencing, and struck the tractor trailer. The impact forced the semi into a guardrail and bridge support. Gaines suffered minor injuries and was transported via EMS. Cleavenger and the JFR crew aboard were uninjured.
According to reports from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Force’s team arrived on Thursday afternoon with a replacement hauler.
Earlier: Members of Brittany Force’s Monster Energy Top Fuel team were uninjured in a highway accident on Tuesday while en route to this weekend’s Toyota NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas. According to a source but unverified at this time, a vehicle eastbound on I-70 at the 99 mile marker near Boonville, Missouri is believed to have crossed the median into the path of the John Force Racing 18-wheeler carrying the Monster Energy dragster and its crew, heading westbound. The team driver is presumed to have taken evasive action to avoid a collision, resulting in an impact with a railing and concrete bridge support structure.
While considerable damage was done to the tractor and trailer, the dragster is believed to have been unharmed, and the team is working on an alternate plan to get the race car and the necessary equipment to Las Vegas in time for Friday’s opening qualifying sessions.
