Kenny Michalak, the 63-year old father of drag radial star Jason Michalak, was tragically killed on Thursday night in a high-speed racing accident at the Houston Motorsports Park in Texas.
The accident reportedly occurred at around 9 p.m. on Thursday evening at the 1/8-mile track in Harris County, when observers say Michalak’s car went out of control and crashed into a barrier at the end of the shutdown area at an estimated 100 mph. EMT’s attempted to resuscitate Michalak, but he was pronounced dead on the scene. According to a post made by his daughter but unconfirmed, it is believed that Kenny may have suffered a heart attack during the fateful run.
Said Jason via social media in the hours following the accident:
My Dad introduced me to drag racing as a child and we have always shared a great passion for this sport. This made us very close. First thing my wife and mother told me tonight is I can’t quit racing as that wouldn’t be what my dad would have wanted. My dad died doing what he loved which brings me some comfort but will never fill the hole in my heart. I want to thank all of my great friends who came to the track tonight after learning of the accident for support and pay their respects. I also would like to thank everyone for the messages and prayers tonight. My Dad will be truly missed but will never be forgotten. He will always ride with me.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Jason and the entire Michalak family for their loss.
