Another established and history-filled drag strip has come up for sale, and this time it’s in the Buckeye State. Marion County International Raceway (MCIR) in La Rue, Ohio is back up for sale again as a turnkey track. This established IHRA facility has some serious character and still draws big crowds to its events.
MCIR was first opened for business in 1970 by Bill and Tom Guthery with great pomp and circumstance. The track hosted the AHRA Nationals where racers like Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney, and Don Prudhomme all competed. In 1980, the track joined the IHRA where it held some of the biggest sportsman races the sanctioning body had ever seen and was a two-time IHRA track of the year.
Over the years, MCIR has held all kinds of events from their weekly bracket series, to nitro Funny Cars, and even had visits from the Street Outlaws cast. MCIR has consistently sent racers to the IHRA bracket finals and have always been competitive at the event.
Located in rural Ohio, MCIR is a full quarter-mile track that has plenty of acreage to hold big events. There is plenty of space for over 4,000 fans and 600 cars on the property. A TSI timing system is included with the track along with an office building, covered picnic pavilion, and everything else you would need to run a race track.
Hopefully, someone will purchase this fine facility and keep it open as a thriving drag strip. With the current state of more tracks closing than opening, it would be a shame to lose another place to race at. Check out the full listing right here to see what the $600,000 asking price will get you.
