Best of Show Automotive has a $1.1 million Hemi up for auction on eBay. And there is something very special about this 1968 Hemi Barracuda.
A million dollars for a decades old car? It seems insane, and yet at the same time, who among us wouldn’t do it if we could? Especially a car that was driven by a living legend like “Akron” Arlen Vanke. Vanke was made famous by his skills behind the wheel of Pontiac Tempests and GTO’s, but he would be lured away to Chrysler in 1966. He would become one of the “Hemi Heroes”, and this 1968 Barracuda was built by Hurst as a race-only vehicle, of which there are few left. These were stripper cars with no options other than those pertaining to racing.
Vanke took this Barracuda to numerous NHRA 1st place finishes and ran consistent 10.20’s in the quarter mile. The car has been exhaustively restored and is authentic down to the rare 426 Hemi Cross Ram engine. But one can never be too sure these days, so to authenticate the car himself will be Arlen Vanke, who will spend a day going over the car with the new owner. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet a living legend, so if you can afford it, don’t pass this opportunity up!
