I’ll just preface this by saying, we get it…enclosed trailers are highly utilitarian, provide a safe haven for your racecar and your tools from thieves and the elements, and they deliver shade and shelter for you and the family at the racetrack. We currently own or have owned enclosed trailers ourselves for those very reasons. Those who have one would never give it up, and many of those without wish they had one, and that’s because they are preferable in almost all regards.

But if you’re proudly rocking an open trailer, keep on rockin’ it. There’s often a stigma that open trailers aren’t trendy, or only for the low-buck racer, but who defines trendy? An enclosed trailer is no doubt highly useful, but there are just some things a big aluminum box rolling down the road will never compete with, and that’s style, and as such, there’s not an ounce of shame in going commando. In truth, your racecar doesn’t know how it got the racetrack, and a whole Buch of big cardboard checks have gone home in the bed of a pickup truck with a flatbed in tow.
There’s no denying the ‘cool factor’ of a racecar exposed for all the world to see, nor the level of unrivaled self-promotion that your hot rod being visible rolling down the highway brings to the sport of drag racing. In a perfect world, where it never rains on raceday and thieves no longer have fingers, perhaps the almighty open trailer would remain more common. With new and used trailers currently at record-high prices due to various shortages and demand, maybe that will even become the case in the years ahead. But again, if your racing program gets to the track in the fresh air, keep rockin’ it!

Last week, literally hundreds of our readers shared photos of their open-trailer rides of all varieties, from the home-brewed to the professionally-built. These are the guys and gals who, whether by choice or necessity, are keeping it old-school cool, and each and every one of them has our undying respect and the DRAGZINE seal of approval.
