Having more places to race is always a positive thing, and a new upstart racing organization based in Los Angeles, California is adding even more positive flavor by promoting professional, semi-professional, and local level racing opportunities for drivers at all levels, and doing it in a affordable manner.
The American All Track Racing Series, or AATRS, was created to provide a national outlet for young drivers to showcase their talents on the racetrack, rather than on the street. In an effort to corral these young racers off the streets and into a legitimate racing environment, the AATRS has created the Midnight Marauders Racing Series, which provides multiple incentives for youth to take to the racetrack. These include national recognition, large weekly payouts, insurance discounts, and sponsorship possibilities.
In addition to drag racing the AATRS has created venues for stock car and road racing enthusiasts of all walks.
The AATRS drag racing series shies away from a traditional points system that would knowingly make travel costs high for competitors, and rather determines an overall series champion based on elapsed time. Thus, someone can scorch the quarter mile at an event, and while unable to attend other events, still remains in the running at seasons end. This negates sandbagging and really gets down to the true core of drag racing, which is elapsed time and speed.
The series currently has six events scheduled for the 2011 season, beginning at the Tulsa Raceway Park May 20-22, followed by races at the Dunn Tire Raceway Park in Lancaster, NY, US 36 Raceway in Osborn, MO, Mid-America Motorplex in Pacific Junction, IA, Southwestern Int’l Raceway in Tucson, AZ, and concluding back in Tulsa on November 11-13. The series recently signed renowned drag racing play-by-play man Al Tucci to announce all of the series’ races in 2011.
Classes will include Ultimate Outlaw for 315 Radial and True 10.5-equipped cars, along with Extreme Street, Factory Street, Street Bike, and Outlaw Bike.
