Preliminary progress is moving right along on the American Motorsports Complex, which is the brainchild of Star Racing and Americus’ own George Bryce. The multi-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion owner and crew chief and industry renowned manufacturer recently unveiled to the public his plans for a multi-purpose racing and business complex, and within the last week, permits have been secured for the parcel of land that will soon be home to the impressive facility.
The complex will be situated on 450 acres in Americus, Georgia, across the street from the South Georgia Technical College and next to the Jimmy Carter Regional Airport in the Northern part of the small town of 17,000.
If all continues according to plan, Bryce plans to break dirt in the coming weeks and expects to have the drag strip operational by the latter part of the 2012 season and the road course slated for completion a year later. The final piece of the puzzle will be the construction of a business park on 50 acres that Bryce hopes will attract race teams and manufacturers who could benefit from being located on and able to readily test at a race track.
The dragstrip is proposed as the longest in the United States at 5,000 feet, and the facility will be complete with helicopter pad, a fire station, and paramedics located across the street.
The South Georgia Technical College, currently boasting a Motorsports Fabrication program, has thrown its weight behind the project by announcing that it would construct 200 new dormitories for racing related student residency and additional motorsports training programs.
Once completed, the Americus Motorsports Complex will feature a premier quarter mile dragstrip with grandstands and suites, a world class road course in three length variations with hillside seating and race track villas, a commpn park area, garages, and a technology park with racing and manufacturer shops.
