Sportsman racing heavy hitter Tommy Phillips has been on quite the tear of late, racking up wins in both NHRA and IHRA competition in the 8.90 and 9.90 categories aboard his Tigerflow/K&N Filters-backed machines.
The Forney, Texas-based runner started things off with an impressive double-up performance at the IHRA Nitro Jam event in San Antonio where he captured both the Quick Rod and Super Rod titles, earning a berth in the season-ending Tournament of Champions in the process. Then he followed up that performance with a win in Super Comp at the recent NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston. The win marks the twenty-second NHRA national event win of Phillips’ decorated career, and his third consecutive win at the annual Houston event. He won in Houston last year in Super Gas and in Super Comp the previous year.
At Houston, Phillips found himself sixteenth on the ladder after an opening round 8.953 win, and then defeated Bob Collins before earning a couple of redlight wins to advance to the final, where he would meet first time NHRA finalist Larry Thomason. There, Phillips used an .017 starting line advantage and some veteran finish line driving skill to post a safe 8.911 for the win.

“I’m just happy to get a win for Tigerflow and K&N, and each of our associate sponsors. Those companies and individuals have really stepped up to bring the Philco Motorsports team to the next level. Without their involvement I wouldn’t be out here, much less be able to enjoy this type of success,” said Phillips.
