American Drag Racing League President Tim McAmis announced on Thursday that the world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing series will contest an eight-car Pro Modified exhibition at the upcoming Speedtech U.S. Drags IV, August 12-13, at Virginia Motorsports Park. The Pro Modified category, of which spawned the ADRL’s wildly popular Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous classes, will combine supercharged, turbocharged, and nitrous-fed doorslammers into the same eliminator.
“It’s going to be a major thrill for fans to be able to watch turbo cars racing against nitrous cars and supercharger cars on a level playing field,” ADRL Director of Competition Tom Grooms said. “There’s a lot of these cars around and the Pro Modified class has a long and storied history. It’s important for us to give them a place to race and a place to compete. The racing will be incredible, the track will be outstanding and we are going to love having these cars in the ADRL.”
The Pro Modified category will have a minimum weight for the exhibition event and will adhere the current NHRA Pro Modified regulations. This opens the door not only to NHRA competitors, but those in regional organizations with rules based on or loosely tied to traditional Pro Modified standards. Currently slated for a single exhibition event, the ADRL is open with their thoughts, with the VMP exhibition setting up the possibility of the inclusion of yet another full-time ADRL class. Top Sportsman was officially added to the series’ lineup just a week ago.
“Being the premier doorslammer drag racing league in the world and by now adding the Pro Modified class with this eight-car exhibition, we’ve now got a home for everyone,” Grooms said. “If you’ve got a fast doorslammer, the ADRL now has a class for you.”
