NHRA Pro Stock rookie Buddy Perkinson has been tabbed by Larry and Diane Morgan to handle the driving chores of a  brand new Don Ness/Sinned Customs Ford Mustang at the upcoming Big O Tires Nationals at The Las Vegas Motor speedway and the NHRA season finale in Pomona. The Morgan prepared entry will of course receive power from a Larry Morgan Racing-built Ford powerplant, with sponsorship from Tuffrail.com.

“As a young racer, I am very honored to have been asked by Larry Morgan to debut a completely new race car,” Perkinson told NHRA.com. “I can’t thank Larry and the Larry Morgan Racing crew and Tuffrail.com enough. Here they are, putting a brand-new car together in just a matter of weeks for me to run at Vegas and Pomona. I also want to thank my parents, Mark and Terri Perkinson, for their encouragement and help in getting this effort put together with Larry Morgan Racing.”

Perkinson, who was named the driver of the Jim Cunningham owned Ford Mustang entry at the beginning of the season, was replaced by Grace Howell prior to Indianapolis. There, Perkinson teamed with Morgan and car owner Mark Wolfe to campaign Wolfe’s newly-acquired Mustang with Tuffrail.com backing and qualified 16th in the tough field. Perkinson again competed in Charlotte, making the field in the 11th spot. At the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals in Reading, he came up just one spot short of making the race day field. Intent on a better finish to the year, Perkinson’s parents began talking with Morgan following the Reading race and struck a deal for the season’s final two races.

“The car was in the final stages of construction,” said Perkinson. “So after we had been talking, Larry put a rush on completing the car and having it delivered to his race shop. The bare chassis got there on Oct. 13, and Larry and his guys have been working around the clock to get the car finished up for Vegas. They’ve done an amazing job. In the grand scheme of things, this whole effort – the car, the engine, getting me in it and the sponsorship — literally came together overnight. As a matter of fact, the first time I’ll see the car is when I get to the track in Vegas.”
