In breaking news regarding the annual Bakersfield March Meet that concluded nearly two weeks ago, it’s been determined by the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series technical staff, led by NHRA Vice President, Technical Operations Glen Gray, that the fuel pump utilized by Nostalgia Funny Car champion Tim Boychuk exceeded the maximum allowable fuel flow in a post-event inspection, thus declaring his disqualification from the event.
The benefactor in this new development is runner-up Chad Head, the son of longtime Funny Car driver Jim Head and the director of racing operations at Al-Anabi Racing, who was informed today of the reversal that subsequently awards him the March Meet title.
In the final round, Boychuk downed Head by a 5.80 at 243.06 MPH to 6.00 at 248.29 count. The March Meet marked the second generation drivers’ first round win (and now event win) in his short driving career, when he downed Dennis LeCharite in the opening round of eliminations.
Rick White, who lost in the final round to Jimi Young in the “Crop Duster” AA/FD, was also disqualified for a similar infraction involving the fuel pump, but as he did not win the event, the disqualification will not change the final round outcome.
