Who said you need a clutch to win in Pro Nitrous? Or for that matter, who ever said you need more than one qualifying run to get the job done?
Texas native Doug Reisterer, who stole the show at the ADRL Gateway Drags in St. Louis earlier this month when he arrived on the final day of the event, made a run in the final qualifying session, and proceeded to mow his way through the Pro Nitrous field to victory circle, put on an encore performance last weekend in Virginia when he virtually dominated the U.S. Drags V for his second straight victory in the category.
Equipped with ATI’s Outlaw Lock-Up Converter behind a Reher-Morrison powerplant, Reisterer took his LenMar Motorsports-backed Camaro to the winners circle at the Virginia Motorsports Park after he defeated Burton Auxier in the final round for the second straight event — this time with an absolutely crushing 3.750-second lap at 195.11 mph.
Reisterer again only took one crack at qualifying on Saturday morning and mustered a 4.24 that got him into the 16-car field at No. 15. He then worked his way through a stellar field of cars, disposing of Jim Laurita, Robert Patrick Jr., and Jason Harris on his way to the money round. After lackluster runs in qualifying and in the opening round, the mechanical and chemical engineer by trade stepped things up in the later rounds with a 3.84 in round two and a 3.85 in the semifinals, preceding the crushing 3.75 in the final that just missed Auxier’s own 3.746 national record and certainly left the veteran West Virginia racer wondering what he’s got to do to beat this guy.
