Walking past the rows of billet parts and carbon fiber at PRI 2025, it is easy to overlook the fluids that keep it all alive. But Liqui Moly was there to answer a question that plagues a lot of car owners: Is buying premium oil actually worth the extra cost? We spent some time with Connor Doran, a technical expert from the company, to get the details on their Molygen lineup and why it is finding its way into so many Ford engines, from daily drivers to track-day monsters.

The Molygen line is interesting because it is formulated specifically for the American and Asian markets. The headline feature here is that Liqui Moly’s proprietary Molecular Friction Control (MFC) technology is pre-blended into the bottle. You don’t have to play chemist in your garage; you just pour it in. For the Ford crowd, they have the bases covered with 5W-20 for the older modular motors, 5W-30 for the Gen II and Gen III Coyotes, and a heavy-duty 5W-50 for the high-boost applications like the Shelby GT500 or pushed EcoBoosts.

Doran explained that the benefits of using a premium oil like this aren’t just theoretical. They see measurable drops in oil temperature and reduced internal friction. In turbo applications, which are brutal on oil due to heat soak, they are seeing fewer deposits in the turbo lines and bearings. That kind of protection is critical when you are leaning on an engine hard.

Another point Doran hit on was consistency. Every single bottle of Liqui Moly is produced in their own facility in Germany before being shipped over. There is no outsourcing to regional blending plants. This ensures that the 5W-50 you buy today is chemically identical to the one you buy next year. The integrated MFC tech works by chemically bonding to metal surfaces and using solid lubricants to fill microscopic imperfections. This smooths out the operation and provides a safety net if oil pressure dips momentarily. For enthusiasts who have dumped thousands into a build, spending a little more on fluids is cheap insurance for long-term durability.
