NMCA: Pro Street newcomer Steve Summers scored his first-ever victory in the NMCA’s premier category as the series made its inaugural visit to the Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk over the weekend. Summers defeated No. 1 qualifier Jeff Lutz in a tight final round matchup, his 6.02 defeating the quicker 6.00 posted by Lutz. In Super Street 10.5W, Mark Micke returned after missing the Bowling Green event to charge into victory lane with his twin-turbo Malibu, defeating Willard Kinzer in the final. Joe Bucaro downed top qualifier Skip Baskin in the Nostalgia Pro Street final, and in Street Outlaw, Dwayne Barbaree collected his first series win in a epic final round match with Phil Hines in which the two posted identical 7.256-second elapsed times. NHRA Division 3: Perennial North Central division powerhouse Bill Reichert stormed to his quickest pass of the weekend in the Top Alcohol Dragster final at the Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky. on Sunday, defeating Ken Perry with a stout 5.36. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Andy Bohl defended the home turf as he drove around world champ Frank Manzo in the final, 5.70 to 5.79 for the win. NHRA Division 5: In the final tune-up before this weekend’s NHRA U.S. Nationals. competitors in America’s heartland squared off at the Heartland Park Topeka, where Gord Gingles ousted Randy Meyer in Top Alcohol Dragster, 5.35 to 5.46, while Jay Payne added to his trophy case with a 5.66 to 5.84 rout of John Lombardo Jr. in the Top Alcohol Funny Car final. IHRA Division 2: Calvin Snow put together a stellar .022 package in the Top Sportsman final at the IHRA Pro-Am event at the Carolina Dragway on Sunday to defeat Mark Padgett, while Jim Onda overcame a better light by opponent Victor Fera in the Top Dragster final to force Fera under the dial. World Series of Drag Racing: NHRA Funny Car standout and former series champion Cruz Pedregon scored the Nostalgia Funny Car title at the 60th annual World Series of Drag Racing at the Cordova Dragway Park over the weekend, driving his California Flash flopper to victory over Mike Minick and the Chi-Town Hustler, 5.90 to 5.94.
