Heads-up drag racing is packed with rivalries, but what happens when things go too far? Orlando Speed World Dragway was ground zero for an incident where the rivalry between Mack Racing and Team White Rice went too far.
To set the stage, you need to understand that both Mack Racing and Team White Rice allegedly had a gentleman’s agreement to allow the trash talk to flow so fans had something extra to cheer for. The problem is, things escalated, the police were involved, and an arrest was made.
The leader of Mack Racing, Morad Mahmoud, posted an explosive video on the team’s Facebook page that made some serious accusations against another team. In the video, Morad stated that a rival team’s videographer was in their pit capturing footage of the engine being torn down after an issue was found.
Morad doesn’t shy away from the fact that there was an alleged altercation, the police were brought in, and he left Orlando Speed World Dragway in handcuffs. In the video, Morad paints a picture that this was a case of hurt feelings and the situation wasn’t that serious.
Because he never named the other team, speculation ran amok on social media, and things got out of hand. There are always two sides to a story, and this is where Cooper Bogetti steps in.
Bogetti was able to identify the unnamed team in Morad’s video and confirmed it was Team White Rice. Bogetti was able to connect with Chris DelGado, Miles Kerr, and Eric LaFerriere to get their side of the story.
In Bogetti’s video, DelGado, Kerr, and LaFerriere talk about the heated rivalry with Mack Racing and don’t deny the incident occurred; however, they paint a deeper picture of what happened.
It turns out the cameraman for Team White Rice reached out to the police on his own. After he made a statement, the state police showed up to investigate the alleged situation, and that’s when things got serious. The state police reviewed all of the footage, and based on what they saw, they felt there was enough evidence to take Morad into custody.
This is where things take a turn. When LaFerriere and team owner Duy Bui learned how serious the situation had become, they made a trip to the front gate to talk with the cameraman. The state police on the scene stopped the pair from trying to talk the cameraman out of pressing charges, saying that once the call was made, the investigation had to move forward and couldn’t be stopped.
According to LaFerriere, after the state police watched the video of the alleged incident, they felt there was enough evidence to move forward with Morad’s arrest. LaFerriere also states the cameraman didn’t press charges after talking with Team White Rice. LaFerriere went on to explain the team didn’t allow the cameraman to attend the World Cup and ultimately parted ways with him due to the incident.
This saga is far from over. Team White Rice claims to have footage of the alleged incident at Orlando Speed World Dragway that tells the entire story of what happened. It’s clear that there was an overreaction by all parties involved, and the escalation ended in an unfortunate series of events that could have been avoided.
