Doug Sikora made his cross-country trek from California to Maryland worth the effort on Sunday, scoring the Outlaw 10.5 title over Steve Gorman at the wildly popular Yellow Bullet Nationals at the Cecil County Dragway. Sikora was joined in the winners circle by defending X275 champion Rich Bruder, along with Paul Major, who scored one of the biggest wins of his career in Outlaw Drag Radial with a defeat of Mustang racing icon “Bid Daddy” Dwayne Gutridge. Mark McCloud was also a repeat winner, taking the Ultra 275 title with a 5.21-second holeshot defeat of John Keesey.
NHRA: Same Day Coverage from Indianapolis. Shawn Langdon dominated Top Fuel at the NHRA’s 59th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, defeating Steve Torrence not once, but twice on the weekend, earning the rain delayed Traxxas Nitro Shootout crown on Sunday and following it up with a win at the “Big Go” on Monday. Robert Hight ended a long winless drought with a huge win in Funny Car over Jack Beckman, who was also searching for a double-up on the weekend, while Mike Edwards scored another Pro Stock victory on the season on a holeshot, 6.63 to 6.62, over V. Gaines. John Hall earned his first Indy title over teammate Matt Smith in Pro Stock Motorcycle, and Mike Janis collected perhaps the biggest win of his career in Pro Modified when he downed Rickie Smith in the money round.
