In a blockbuster news announcement, officials from the Pacific Street Car Association and the Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis revealed on Thursday a multi-year agreement to expand the hugely popular Street Car Super Nationals, contested each November at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, to a second event in 2014, to be held at the multi-purpose venue in the midwest on August 20-24, 2014.

The heads-up door slammer event will be known as the St. Louis Street Car Super Nationals, and will be contested at the world-class, quarter-mile facility located in Madison, Illinois, just across the Mighty Mississippi from downtown St. Louis.

“We’re excited to work with Mel Roth on the development of this event and believe it will quickly become one of the premier drag racing events in the United States,” said Chris Blair, Gateway Motorsports Park Senior vice president of business development and promotion.   “Having been involved with the development of the Street Car Super Nationals from the beginning, I’ve watched the program grow tremendously from it’s beginning and know that our venue will be the perfect home for the next step for this event.”

PSCA President Mel Roth was the mastermind behind the development of the Street Car Super Nationals, which will mark it’s ninth running on the weekend of November 13-17. The event has become one of the most prestigious and talked-about drag races on the calendar, and a record number of racers and spectators are expected this year.

“From the very beginning I’ve had plans to continue building this program and expand to additional events,’ said Roth.  “Having worked with Chris on the Street Car Super Nationals from the start, he knew I was looking for a first class facility with the right geographic location and there’s nowhere better than Gateway Motorsports Park to host the event.”

MG2_4258The Gateway facility, now under the operation of St. Louis businessman Curtis Francois, is host to the NHRA’s AAA Midwest Nationals and has been, since it’s opening in 1997, considered one of the quickest and fastest tracks in the country. That fact should bode well for the St. Louis Street Car Super Nationals, given the record-shattering history that the Las Vegas event has forged in recent years.

Details, including the classes, rules, payouts, and schedule are still being finalized and will be released at the Performance Racing Industry show in Indianapolis next month.

The Las Vegas Street Car Super Nationals features competition in Outlaw Pro Mod, Pro Mod, Outlaw 10.5, Extreme Drag Radial/True 10.5, Wild Street, Hot Street, Outlaw 8.5, and a host of index and bracket eliminators.
